Artist's Description

An old, ox drawn wagon slowly returns to the dust against the backdrop of the High Sierra Nevada Mountains. Why was the wagon abandoned? Did the party finally make it to it's destination? Did the wagon break under the weight of it's cargo? These and many other questions go unanswered as the Sierra Nevada Mountains claimed many pioneers during the gold rush years starting in 1849. 300,000 gold-seekers to California, ushering in an era of lawlessness, racism and genocide against the native inhabitants. This wagon has a story to tell, ... is anyone listening?
