Artist's Description
This is the hill that my family tobogganed on in East Topsham, Vermont. A long climb through deep snow was rewarded by a half mile ride downhill at breakneck speeds. This is a small oil study for a larger painting. This is typical of the way I work. I may complete a dozen or more small studies of a particular subject or theme and choose the one that I feel would look the best to have as a larger work in the same proportions.

Oh fantastic! It's really true that in the off season our perception of a certain place doesn't change when we are familiar with it being associated and part of something else. It will look awkward and off until we see it back the way it is in our mind....in this case covered in runs with happy cold faces.
