Artist's Description

This exposure was taken looking south at Crater Lake in Oregon USA. The sun had already set and there was this beautiful, warm afterglow illuminating both the sky and the landscape. A few moments after I took this exposure everything turned gray and the warm glow was gone as it grew dark.

It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and is famous for its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly 2,148-foot deep caldera that was formed around 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the volcano Mount Mazama.
